Ethiopia has expelled an Egyptian diplomat and ended diplomatic relations with Eritrea.
It comes as fighting in the north of the country escalates with reports that several explosions were heard overnight on Wednesday across the capital Addis Ababa.
Alemayehu Weldemariam is an adjunct professor of law at the Center for Constitutional Democracy at Indiana University. He says the recent drone attacks targeting Addis Ababa are what led to Ethiopia breaking diplomatic ties with its neighbours.

Wether it stems from ignorance or deliberate bias, the journalist claiming the conflict merely ‘spread from Tigray to neighbouring Amhara' is completely false. The Amhara region has been locked in its own deadly, distinct war for the past three years.
Mr Alemayehu is illiterate calling the Prime Minister, a child and misinforming people without no evidence that there was attack in Addis and other places. Unverified news we have a lot of liars like these ones.
An Urgent Appeal to the International Community
As an Ethiopian citizen, I am deeply concerned by the escalating war and the increasing use of drone warfare on both sides.
A solution is urgently needed before this conflict spreads to neighboring countries and causes even greater suffering and destruction.
Please do not remain silent. Urge all parties to stop the violence and pursue direct negotiations before it is too late.
The scholar perspective is biased, He is stating because of the “rhetoric” by ethiopian government about the port, Eritrea has a right to meddle in ethiopian internal politics. I would recommend to aljezera to bring wider views to the panel or give a clear nomenclature to the panelist,
Abiy, the puppet of UAE, is bringing Ethiopia to its knees. Unfortunately, the World is letting it happen, ignoring its reprecation for the entire region and beyond.
