the problem, ruto opened borders between kenya and somalia🇸🇴. somalians took advantage of that opportunity. they flooded kenya in their numbers and immediately sought to acquire kenyan 'citizenship' IDs. they are the ones congesting nairobi rightnow. they are taking over estates like; eastleigh, parklands, westlands, kilimani, kileleshwa, south-C, south-B, nairobi-west etc.
imagine just a few years ago, nairobi population was about 4.1m. today in 2026, nairobi population has skyrocketed and now standing at well, over 7m!
aside from somalians🇸🇴, nairobi also has a huge number of ethiopians🇪🇹, eritreans🇪🇷, ugandans🇺🇬, burundians🇧🇮, tanzanians🇹🇿, rwandese🇷🇼, DRcongolese🇨🇩, southsudanese🇸🇸, nigerians🇳🇬, cameroonians🇨🇲, ghanaians🇬🇭. its sad to say, upto 90% of them are not documented

What can I say. Serious vertical development. I grew up in Nairobi and can't recognize 70% of the places you shot. I also lived in Eastleigh 1995 to 1997 and can't recognize a thing today. To put everything in perspective data revels Nairobi metropolitan population to be 15 million plus in 2026. That includes forays into 3 counties i.e Kiambu, Machakos and Kajiado. I read a report that the metro could reach 52 million by 2050 making Nairobi the largest global agglomeration past Cairo and Lagos. My people we might just be witnessing the birth of Africa's premier city. Go to Kenya national bureau of statistics to see the value of approved building plans to illustrate my point. As we speak 300000 affordable houses under construction...massive. Then the rare earth find. 75 billion dollars worth. An investor is meant to pay this in yen years meaning 7.5 billion per year pushing our GDP growth to over ten percent for over a decade. Remember that our GDP is 147 billion dollars. I tell you gentlemen and ladies by the time 2063 reaches and we are 100 years old...this old lady will be first world...I rest my case

If you’re visiting, always respect the local people, their culture and way of life, and be mindful of your belongings while exploring. Travel with respect and enjoy the real experience. 🙏🇰🇪

There's no World in which Nairobi is more elegant than Kigali. Large parts of Nairobi are shocking (yes it has improved in some areas) but the CBD is not what anyone could really call 'insanely elegant'. Now Upper Hill, Parklands, Lavington, Milimani, parts of Karen, they're nice areas but they're also wealthy areas. Wealthy areas look nice in most cities.
But Eastlands? South B? Kayole? River Rd etc etc? Elegant? Come off it.

Tall buildings alone don’t make a city look elegant….., narrow streets with no sidewalks….modern apartment buildings with overhead power lines dangling everywhere….the basic deficient infrastructure doesn’t look ready for modern infrastructure that’s thrown up around it….not a very well planned city to cope with all the high rise buildings.

On the plus side, the buildings are impressive, and the locals are civilized and do not seem aggressive. On the downside, however, there are twisted wooden utility poles with sagging power lines, a lack of sidewalks in some areas, and issues with cleanliness. Furthermore, the behavior of moto-taxi drivers is problematic: many riders and their passengers do not wear helmets, and they speed through the city center. To remedy this, the authorities should either ban motorcycles altogether, as is the case in Addis Ababa, or ensure compliance through strict law enforcement. If the Kenyan authorities were to rectify these shortcomings, Nairobi could achieve the same level of development as Durban and Joburg.

Some streets are completely out of step with Nairobi's impressive vertical development. I would even go so far as to say it is undignified. When it comes to urban planning specifically the beautification of sidewalks and streets, Ethiopia, with its capital Addis Ababa, seems to have achieved better results.

I'm Kenyan and I'll say it, Nairobi's skyline is beautiful, but street level is ugly!! Until we put those power and internet lines subterranean or redo them overhead with professionalism in mind, until we redesign all these streets with non-motorized transport in mind, until we become intentional about street-level beauty, Landscaping, something will always feel off about our city.

As a patriotic Kenyan, I believe we can do better in terms of urban planning. There's nothing wrong with vertical growth, but we must also prioritize horizontal expansion and more greenery. Our roads are in bad shape, and while Nairobi is a hive of construction right now, it's overly congested. Perhaps it's time we seriously considered relocating the capital to a more central, spacious area. We urgently need a massive metro light rail and BRT system to get rid of the millions of cars clogging the CBD.
