From the absurdities of everyday life behind the Iron Curtain to the quiet beauty of a Masurian lake, this week Pulse of Culture takes you on a journey through art, design and discovery.

At the Polish History Museum in Warsaw, a brilliant new exhibition called What Are We Queuing Here For? The Polish People's Republic Reflected in Music turns the music, memories and absurdities of communist everyday life into a surprisingly entertaining and moving trip down memory lane. The exhibition runs until December 6, 2026 and is one of the most enjoyable shows in Warsaw this autumn. At the Gawroński Villa on Aleje Ujazdowskie, the Polish Modernism: A Struggle for Beauty exhibition explores whether beautiful design can emerge from having almost nothing, and why objects created decades ago under communism suddenly look so relevant again. But hurry: it closes on October 11.

We then travel to Masuria, where Karolina Shapland discovers the quiet beauty of Lake Czos in Mragowo, a corner of Poland that does not always make the guidebooks but absolutely should. And if you are looking for something new to watch this autumn, TVP comedy-drama Felicita will take you to southern Italy, where family secrets, complicated relationships and a fresh start collide under the Apulian sun.
