Russia's gasoline crisis has reached St. Petersburg, and it's getting harder to hide. Gasoline has reportedly disappeared from nearly half of the city's gas stations, while the number of stations where drivers can fill up without facing long waits has dropped dramatically. Some residents are even spending the night in their cars, hoping to find fuel in the morning.
The crisis follows a Ukrainian strike on the KINEF oil refinery, one of the key fuel suppliers for northwestern Russia. Russian officials described the damage as limited, but the consequences are becoming increasingly difficult to explain away.
In a new episode of Break the Fake, Benjamin Lee looks at St. Petersburg's worsening fuel shortage, the refinery strike behind it, and why Russia's war is becoming harder to keep at a comfortable distance from everyday life.
