Theatre often gives us a different way of examining the questions shaping society — from power and leadership to identity, tradition and family.
A new South African drama, The Kraal, explores these themes through a fictional Zulu royal family in KwaZulu-Natal in the late 1990s.
The story follows a young law student who returns home and becomes caught up in a bitter struggle over succession, ambition and family loyalty.
The Kraal runs at the South African State Theatre from 3 to 13 September.
We're joined by Ipeleng Keamogetswe Matlhaku, producer and production manager of The Kraal.
