A final chapter for one of Russia's most fearless newspapers, as Novaya Gazeta announces it is shutting down after more than three decades of challenging the Kremlin. Its journalists have paid the ultimate price for speaking out - including Anna Politkovskaya, shot dead in Moscow in 2006 while investigating abuses in Chechnya. The newspaper says six colleagues were killed over the years. Its former editor Dmitry Muratov won the Nobel Peace Prize, but even that could not protect the paper. Now, after years of raids, censorship and intimidation, Novaya Gazeta says Russian authorities have effectively killed the newspaper. The UN calls it a devastating blow to press freedom.
