Free State | 17-year-old learner expelled due to absence

A 17-year-old Free State matric learner has been expelled from school during the most important year of her academic career.

The learner says an official from the Department of Education accused her of being absent for more than twenty days from Eldoret Secondary School in Odendaalsrus.

She adds that this is grounds for expulsion.

The parent of the learner says she sent her daughter to a school in town with only her SASSA grant, hoping that this will elevate their living conditions but feels failed by the government.
