The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure and the Nazareth Baptist Church are both investigating the collapse of a retaining wall at the church's Ebuhleni village in Inanda, north-west of Durban.
Eight congregants were injured yesterday after the wall under construction collapsed while workers were having lunch.
There were initial fears that some workers may have been trapped beneath several metres of sand.
Search and rescue operations were later concluded, with no fatalities reported.
