Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, has slammed those who he says marched against him for temporarily withdrawing funds from 69 municipalities found non-compliant with the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA).
He says Treasury withheld the money because the municipalities are failing to pay creditors, while skimping on workers' pension funds.
He has urged municipalities to be compliant, as some on the list of 69 are repeat offenders.
Godongwana adds that the move is not punitive, but to ensure ensure consequence management at municipalities.
