A north Queensland mother whose baby was taken as part of seven-vehicle car theft has described the "gut-wrenching" experience.
Sarah Hill's car was stolen in Townsville about 1pm yesterday, while her 2-month-old daughter Cali slept in a baby seat inside the vehicle.
The alleged thieves returned moments later and placed the baby, still in the car seat, on the side of the road, before driving away again.
A police helicopter assisted with the search for the alleged offenders overnight and the vehicle has been located.
Officers have arrested eight young people and two adults in relation to a number of car thefts across the city.
