The tragic death of a one-year-old girl has left the Yena family devastated after the toddler allegedly drowned in a pit latrine at a local crèche in Sidwadweni Village, outside Tsolo in the Eastern Cape.
It is alleged that the child was last seen by a three-year-old walking towards an unsecured pit toilet before teachers later discovered her floating inside.
The incident has reignited concerns over safety standards at early childhood development centres.
The grieving family says the pain is unbearable, claiming this is the second child they have lost on school premises in less than two years.
