After U.S. President Donald Trump made it clear last year that Ukraine cannot hope for NATO membership, but at best, robust security guarantees, Kyiv appeared to have dropped the subject. Now, with the U.S. pulling out of its role as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia, NATO membership appears to be on the agenda, as made clear by Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Nordic-Baltic summit in Tallinn, Estonia.
Zelenskyy “is starting from the northern and Baltic states because (...) these are the states which have always supported Ukraine’s bid for NATO membership. And he knows now that when he is going to Ankara, to the NATO summit, he will be armed with this argument that ‘eight nations in northern east of Europe are supporting me and want my country to be in NATO,’” said Marcin Zaborowski, TVP World’s Europe Editor
Join our host, Maciej Mikos, and his guest as they explore Ukraine’s push for NATO and EU membership, as well as whether Russian withdrawal from the Kinburn Spit, south of the mouth of the Dnipro River, means Ukraine has finally turned the tide on the front lines.
