Former President Jacob Zuma has instructed his legal team to apply for leave to appeal Judge Nkosinathi Chili's ruling in the Pietermaritzburg High Court today (14/5), to grant the state's so-called Stop Stalingrad application. Judge Chili said it's in the interest of justice that the arms deal corruption trial commence regardless of any applications or pending appeals. Zuma and French arms company Thales have pleaded not guilty to charges of corruption, fraud, money laundering and racketeering.
The case has been delayed for 18 years due to several unsuccessful applications by Zuma.
