Dozens of families were left homeless on Friday night after authorities demolished shacks at Chief Albert Luthuli informal settlement in Ekurhuleni.
Residents say they were originally relocated from Paksfontein to the settlement in 2011, in what was meant to be a temporary three-month arrangement.
They allege the Ekurhuleni municipality has repeatedly promised them permanent relocation.
In 2022 some residents were relocated to Mayfield Extension 45, but others were left behind.
