Seven companies in Indonesia have been issued preventive measure notices under Singapore’s Transboundary Haze Pollution Act. The National Environment Agency says
there are indications that smoke from fires on land owned or occupied by them could have moved to Singapore. The firms are being ordered to take immediate steps to tackle the fires, as Singapore renews its offer to help Indonesia. Aslam Shah with more.
Enforce the law to treat forest burning activities as criminal, director and all individual will be responsible for direct, indirect involvement or negligence. Put them into jail or canning, with that I believe they dare not do again.
Dear Indonesia,
I would like to thank Indonesia for not burning more forest than they have this time round so that we, who are living in Singapore, can have another 10 months of "free oxygen" next year.
Since Indonesia is not able to pay the debt to China for building the rail yet and having problems with controlling the "funds leakage" in their national free food program, I hope that Indonesia considers letting Singapore help and work with the farmers to use non-slash-burn method next year.
We wouldn't mind spending millions to give farmers the equipment to clear forest instead of letting them burn and create haze which will cost billions in Singapore's economy and people's health in return.
With Sarcasm,
Singapore
70% of all manufactured goods and food products in the world depend on the price of Indonesian palm oil. Stopping the fires will have severe economic consequences more painful than the haze.
Indonesia helping? I think they’re smirking that our air quality is the same as their capital now. Still waiting for their “promise” of the 11 months of clean air.
Let's hear which Singaporean companies are involved please. Fine to point the finger at Indonesian companies, but it is well known Singaporean companies are involved as well. More investigative work is required CNA please.
