Six Flags Goliath roller coaster death: What we know

The Six Flags in Valencia CA finally closed the ride that had been causing brain damage to its riders. I think a couple of people died. There is a hospital in Valencia where the riders were taken and the neurosurgeon had been sounding the alarm for over a year about it.

The how is that the US doesn't have comprehensive federal oversight of permanently installed amusement-park rides. A proposal introduced in Congress in March 2025 sought to establish stronger federal oversight, citing gaps in the existing system.

The issue is that permanent amusement-park rides are primarily regulated by individual states, rather than through one comprehensive federal inspection system.

First, it is always tragic to hear of a death or serious injury on a coaster, and investigations need to be conducted, BUT we humans are not great at rationalizing actual risks, and the comments below demonstrate this. These rides are deemed to be very dangerous, and national news makes every death headline news, but on a per-mile or a per-hour basis, auto travel carries a much higher risk, and we pile our kids and pets in without a second thought. The daily average in the USA for traffic deaths is over 100. Flying, sharks, and lightning are all statistically more likely to kill you. I make no argument for or against riding, or driving for that matter, just hoping that we all pause and apply our critical thinking skills more in life.

That's why we need more government control, like a small leader friendship socialism, so we never choose to do dangerous things again. They won't put money into such things, just leader friendship and spreading selective care. That's until you meet a cutoff, but that's usually just aging out or disability. That only gets decided by the leader friendship group after the 3-year settle-in.💪- I think I'll just vote for the Right this go-round.

No one ever says anything about theme parks until something out of the blue of some freak accident then it's all hate from there. It is tragic, but it is also a machine. There are signs that say "Ride at your own Risk" but in all honestly. The Goliath has been there for what 25 years. No ride should be allowed to run that long with technology made that is older than 2 decades. This was bound to happen and Six Flags should be held accountable.

Some of the comments on this are beyond disgusting and unfortunately a testament to the hate in our country. A man DIED in front of his SON in a tragic freak accident. Others were injured and surely traumatized. My God people, have some compassion. There but for God's grace... it could have been you, your family member, friend... the accident is sad and tragic but the comments I'm reading are horrid. I pray that none of you have to experience the hatred you've shown towards this individual and his family's suffering.

I was at a corporate closed event out at Disneyland when a new Indiana Jones mine car ride was opened intermittently for whatever they were testing. I was loaded into the extreme top corner seat and I had to brace myself constantly against the violent forces generated by the whipping motion of the track and the hydraulic pistons accentuating the movement. fortunately I was a big strong male bodysurfer able to counteract the violent machine, but it was scary fight. I figured Disneyland would turn the forces down a bit. later on in full operation it caused a brain hematoma and killed a lady.

Its has been a tough year to be a coaster enthusiast... park closures, ride closures, and worst of all, serious life-altering injuries and now a fatality. I love this hobby but man, it feels like safety and operations are taking a backseat to increasing cost cutting measures. Even if that's not entirely true, that is the public perception.
@Zav369

The people stranded on the ride are able to sue for emotional distress and negligence and will likely get $275K each or more. Happened in a similar incident where two teens were stranded for just 25 minutes. I hope everyone involved sues and pushes for changes, although nothing can bring back this man or comfort his family.
