For two years, residents of Bez Valley and Bertrams, east of Johannesburg, have lived without consistent water and electricity.
A multi-million rand project meant to fix leaking water and repair sewer pipes collapsed after three consecutive main contractors hired by Johannesburg Water abandoned the site - after also allegedly damaging electricity infrastructure.
Today, what remains is a maze of wide-open, hazardous trenches cutting through the community, while contractors point to non-payment by the City.
