Some car dealers in Singapore say mass-market models that qualify for rebates under the proposed merging of COE Categories A and B could lose some of their resale value. Meanwhile, proposed surcharges on higher-end cars could drive more buyers towards used premium ones. The industry association says dealers could also take a hit on cars already in their stock, as the market adjusts. Charlotte Lim reports.
" to make the mass models more affordable " doesnt make sense, 1. quota is a huge question mark, limited supply while a combined amount of bidders now bidding on the same coe will inevitably drive the coe price up. 2. comparing apples to oranges as usual, 30k difference, does it really matter? comparing cheap ev to luxury even a mid tier car the difference may be negligible, 15k discount on a lesser than 200k car is big but for luxury cars? what is 15k to a car that cost 350k? a different set of wheels?

the inevitable end result is 15k doesnt deter people from buying luxury car meaning the majority that can afford it and was bidding for cat B will now bid for the same coe as those bidding for cat A, more purchasing power means can bid higher so price of coe will very likely increase regardless.

worse if lta dont create a separate category for phv and leasing businesses those also have a massive amount of budget to up bid

so does " make the mass models more affordable " still make sense to you?
