Minister Leon, does it make sense to you that naturalized citizens have to continue being discriminated, refused access to smart IDs, while permanent residents from visa-exempt countries have access to smart IDs? Clearly as a minister your priorities are upside down. Logical reasoning would have citizens prioritized before non citizens, how is it that never occurred to you? Unless you think a naturalized citizen is a second class citizen. Let’s be serious for a moment.
The basic requirement of the affordability of accessing & utilizing a smartphone for a very large proportion of the population is the realistic challenge! I believe that this challenge will delay the conclusion of the digital rollout of identification of all legitimate South Africans.

Kudos to the Home Affairs dept for embracing the digital age. Why can't Dept of Social Services do the same whereby people can apply online for grants. Also why doesn't the government departments "talk" to each other so that the grant recipients don't have to queue for hours just for life verification
