First remove the humanities. Arts and law from IIT. ONLY HAVE ENGINEERING and Financial engineering which has maths papers in the program. This student wants five star hotel and not hostel. If student is weak in english, that student has to learn.
@MonuVerma-Broadcasting
Yeh humanities waale ko pakad ke pooch rahi hai mental health , academic pressure , lagta hai interviewer ko bhi nahi pata IIT kya hai ?

One thing everybody should understand. If you're inside an IIT or IIM, you're already part of the elite race. You can't be complacent in that stage. When it comes to study, it's relative grading, when it comes to placement, it's your overall assessment + extra achievements. If you take things lightly, you won't get the coveted roles. If you want a chill life, you need to make trade-offs.
Life is not easy specially in a country like India where you're in top %ile of the crowd.
Is it a sad state of affairs that you can't take a break from your life? I would say it's your choice, you can take rest but result will follow. I'm sure most of the people never take any rest even after graduating from IITs or IIMs. That's the reality, fortunate or unfortunate, depends what you think is good or bad. Work life stress might be bad, once you see yourself earning lakhs and crores, your outlook might change.
Choice is yours - be happy with IIT or without IIT. Important is owning your choices, don't think world is very good. Specially when you're part of the system (Race to achieve excellence).

~Open letter from an IIM graduate

I don't know why he is saying so, but IIT's hostel are top class, including IISc. They have one of the best infra. IIT delhi hostels are little old, but enough for the students because they have every facility.

Who said that in IIT's only academics is the priority? ... And what is the Rocket Science in intermediate PCM.... I am myself in grade 12 and preparing for this exam... I never felt it to be too much to bear..... IIT is not for everyone... Depressed are only those who don't actually like science but are forced to... and that is not the fault of IIT's... Everyone wants to be overall the best but very few understand the hardwork it takes...

Dear interviewer, I am an IITB alumnus. Please live in IITB hostel and the facility they provide, they are great, see their medical facility, sports facility, fests, academic, labs everything is top very good. Please be there for some time then judge by yourself. You will find people with different views at least go in a democratic way. I am sure most of the students will appreciate IITB culture and standards.

In an good institute where students should learn and enjoy their learning they are burdened under the academic pressure to score marks in exams whether in schools or colleges
IIT should also do something to improve our school education as the no of teacher who really want to teach our childrens are very less

End castes, end reservations in education. Enough 60years. Dr B. R. Ambedkar has written only for 10 years. All merit students are getting affected. Give money incentives for students of backward communities like us. Not the reservations. I am in cream of sc my parents have grown much. No reservations in India.

You tell me how can a premier education institution like IIT has additional criteria like reservation based on caste? You have already killed spirit for its existence!! How come these institutions which are run on taxpayers funds allow its talent to slip and settle outside India? People who escape India do well for themselves but how is country benefit from this? Unless these talents are not used for Indian employers for Indian innovation all taxpayers funds are wasted on them. Why IITian who settled abroad feels proud instead of shame for cheating their country? Why IIT have not solved or seen involved proactively to define thousands of day to day problem in various areas? What world class research they do for India? It has become criminally defunct institutions where facilities caliber is mediocre and leadership is only there for decades to get salaries!!

Same problem even in new IITs like IIT Mandi. Hostel and food facilities are worst! Draconian academic culture and most of professors are inhumane and diabolical towards students. On September 01, 2026, a 24 years old student committed suicide due to academic pressure but there was no news, neither in mainstream media nor in social media...

I agree with the hygiene issue of hostels. It gets so bad that students don't take a bath for multiple days to avoid the smells. Cleanliness is definitely an issue.

But, his point about Mittal sports complex is complete and utter BS. The charge is just 1000Rs. security deposit. That charge is not as onerous as he is making it sound. Also, most other facilities are open and under BSA, while the Mittal facility hosts the badminton and squash courts. Most charges can be waived off if you show financial incapacity. And what is wrong with asking students to wear specific shoes for Badminton? The courts are state-of-the-art and require maintenance. Chapri thodi na chahiye toilets ki tarah!

As far as normalising is concerned, when a faculty dies, IITs never stop. The education of the masses is not held back. It is sad, but true. So, the same standard is held for everybody.
So, it is not apathy but a sense of mission that drives IITs. Besides, the Professors hurt too when their students commit suicide. You have not worn the other shoes. Thus, you just don't really know. Nobody wants to sweep things under the rug. Investigations are always performed for any such incident.

What this kid is not talking about is the apathy of students and hostellers towards one another. The Wingies are brothers and sisters, and they always supported each other during my time. Things have really got worse nowadays. The parents put far more pressure on their children now. Ab to ragging bhi band ho gayi hai. If anything, the kind of ragging that used to happen in hostels was so bad that it should have led to many, many suicides back in the day. Actually, the ragging was stopped ruthlessly because of suicide cases.

Finally, it is astounding that this student magically knows what transpired between the Professor and the student. Clearly, this guy has an agenda. The protocol was followed and the student was quietly taken out. The real question that one must ask is what he really feared. Shame in facing his friends or his teachers or his family or a combination thereof. Only after the investigation is completed will we know what happened.
