These are facts: There were several bombings, including attacks involving:<br><br>* Jewish commercial/recreational locations<br>* The Masuda Shemtov Synagogue<br>* The U.S. Information Service building, which was frequented by Jews<br>* Other locations associated with the Jewish community<br><br>Iraqi authorities eventually arrested members of the Zionist underground. Two Jewish activists, Shalom Salah Shalom and Yosef Ibrahim Basri, were executed, while another, Yehuda Tajar, received a lengthy prison sentence. <br><br>So was the purpose to scare Jews into Israel?<br><br>That is one serious historical interpretation, but it isn’t an uncontested fact.<br><br>There is evidence pointing toward Zionist involvement in at least some of the attacks. Most notably, historian Avi Shlaim, himself of Iraqi-Jewish background, concluded in recent research that Zionist underground members were responsible for at least three of the five bombings, based partly on an Iraqi police report and testimony from a former participant in the underground. <br><br>There are also historical accounts in which the British Embassy in Baghdad concluded that Zionist activists were responsible, believing the objective was to emphasize the danger facing Iraqi Jews and encourage Israel to accelerate their evacuation.

This does not take into account the actions of the Iraqi government. Yes, Israel made dishonest efforts, too, but they&#39;re not the only ones to blame. The Arab states that started targeting Jews because of Israel indirectly strengthened Israel&#39;s position. Otherwise, Israel&#39;s Jewish population would be half of what it is now.
