Residents in Merafong still live in asbestos-roofed homes, risking serious illness. The gauteng province banned asbestos roofing in 2008, but enforcement has been weak. The One Merafong Organization is now launching a class action lawsuit against the South African government over what the organisation terms ''the asbestos crisis.''
