As far as I'm concerned the US By the end of World War II, the U.S. had built or expanded 17 military facilities in Greenland (13 Army bases and 4 Navy bases). But they never kept them up they want to use the one as far as I'm concerned I hope give the right to Donald Trump to say what happens on the island

Denmark folded like a house of cards.. to bad for the greenlanders I guess!!.

USA got permanent right to have US troops in Greenland. Denmark must ask USA to station other nations troops there. Denmark had to invite Greenland to handle it's own foreign policy. All of this are clear intrusions on Denmark sovereignity, done by intimidations and threats.
Where was Burnham, Macron or Merz? This is no ok! USA shall not force NATO members on sovereignity issues. That is what NATO is for! Why did Denmark have to capitulate? We need to make Ukraine win now! This is Munich 1938.

"Mr. Trump also said the U.S. would “FOREVER have the complete ability to do what is necessary in Greenland in order to secure and defend the security of Greenland.” But the existing U.S. agreement with Denmark to host American military bases on Greenland did not have a time limit."
Nothing has changed
There's a reason this was announced on a weekend.

I think Denmark has made a serious mistake agreeing to letting the usa into Greenland.
How about having america cleaning up their garbage from their previous occupation? I am sure that the land is now toxic.

So, essentially, after the threats and flatulence the USA ended up back were it started with the 1951 treaty.
The "stable" diplomatic genius, Don Tzu, strikes again.

Well, whatever Denmark agreed, Trump is not going to respect it and will gradually do what he likes in Greenland and then it is too late for Europe to complain about it. Total utter weakness from Europe, again.

So it is really just a reaffirmation of the 1951 agreement. A nothing burger.

Denmark are you crazy? You SIGNED A DEAL WITH TRUMP ?!?! Has what he is doing to Canada, tearing up the agreements HE SIGNED last term and changing them during negotiations taught you anything?! Have you not seen the bases in the Gulf get destroyed and the US not supporting them? If the US starts more wars (and they will) you will become a target! Denmark might have just signed the death blow to Greenland... shameful
@janinsweden8559

Well the agreement is NOT signed yet according to Danish foreign minister. And...already the 1951 agreement let the US have as many troops as they needed. Peaked at 7000 during thr Cold War.

I would always take "Trump says" with a block of salt.
From what I can find, this does not change things a lot, (if the Danish parlament, and in theory Congress, sign it.)
I think he needs to distract from Iran & gas prices.

In the trumpian world, russia is simultaneously both an existential threat to USA and the bestest friend who should have a part of Ukraine and pay for Don Jr's wedding. The two concepts are not contradictory at all in the cult of trump.

This is a president who desperately needs a “win” - his approval ratings are tanking every day. As always, his remarks must be met with a heavy dose of skepticism. Let’s wait and see what the Danish government agreed to and is willing to approve.
