When Bernie Sanders joins Steve Bannon to draw the attention of the American public to something they both consider dangerous, it's good to pay attention. On the other hand, I keep wondering if what is behind all this mobilization "against" the advance of AI is not the interest of American big techs to force the US government to contribute hundreds of billions of dollars into the coffers of these companies. The fear is the technological advancement of China, the dominance of the new technology by countries such as Russia, India and other less quoted. Now, even with all its power, how can the US slow down the AI technological race? Something makes me believe that the big techs of the US have already lost the race and are now trying to sensitize the American government to rescue them. Do you know why? Because nothing the US does now will reduce the risks mentioned by the former employee of Anthropic and the other big ones in AI. Americans can even regulate their market, but not that of other countries, especially that of China. I also find it curious that the issue of risks went viral on the eve of Anthropic's IPO. As for the risks, the main one - the extinction of jobs in large sectors of the economy - is hardly mentioned anymore. The big techs have never shown concern about this. Now, they claim that humanity is at risk of extinction if the US does not regulate the sector. That's at least very confusing.
