In my hometown they rebuilt a bus station. Now it has no trees and the houses on the bus stop are glass all around. There is no shade. And it’s supposed to be for school kids. Worst planning ever…

Singapore is already great implementing safety and comfortable way to mobilize around the coutry (city), there nice and easy access public transport, highly walkable city and nice road and toll roads for the driver, I dont think singapore needs excesive walkable city like in europe standart, SEA already have their own stlye.

Man this is such a bizarrely anti-car mindset, with an assumption that cars are all bad and cities need to get rid of them completely. That's so ridiculous and unrealistic. So even countries like Singapore where there's a huge tax on cars (called the COE) are condemned because there are still too many cars. F FYI the COE alone makes an ordinary car in Singapore roughly $120,000 to $135,000 more expensive, which inflates the total purchase price to 3 to 4.5 times what you would pay in Malaysia or Thailand. But I guess as long as there are still cars, this guy isn't happy 🥴

I’m Singaporean, and I have to say, I’m pretty annoyed by what seems to be over glazing on our infrastructure… they are always overly politicized in Singapore and we aren’t sure if for example, so called, “silver zones” are really successful or not. I mean most of these literally was just the government saying “yeah we know you guys jaywalk, the law disallows that, but we will make it easier anyway and penalize cars harder when they bump into a human”, like it’s not exactly fair or safe for a pedestrian. Some of these pedestrian crossing also cause congestion and even more angry drivers, and as a pedestrian you can sometimes feel the heat behind aggressive drivers during rush hour. A traffic light still go a long way. But, I have to say, we do have infrastructure that is a lot better than the other countries, specifically, having always a pedestrian path, having covered walkways. But things like friendly streets is just one of the example our government over advertise such things and academics will over glaze and ignore or downplay all the real world frictions. But I have to say again, we have freedom of speech so I’m free to hate, but I do really enjoy being able to walk down the street without looking over my shoulder for cars trying to kill me.

There’s a lot more I have to say to make this video more nuanced, but toward the end of car hating(which I don’t disagree with) there was a point on how the roads are empty. But the truth is, during rush hours, the roads are always jammed and accidents are plenty. We also really need more MRT, and busses are really not the solutions to mid length transport. There is this dichotomy of either only being a car driver and a pedestrian using BMW(bus MRT walk), that is simply not true, many who drive, do use public transport, and family of those who drive definitely do use public transport. So politically public transport is a very very important thing, if not as important and held to the same degree as cars. And usually it’s simply treated as transport in general.

Essentially, the more overarching issue is over congestion, and focusing on only one side of transport is not going to solve that

These coverings of the sidewalks do seem quite nice, but I wonder why they didn't try to put trees instead of metal structures. Trees seem to me to be much nice to provide shade and help to cool the city down. Other commenters here have said that these structures are more rain protection rather than sun protection so perhaps it's because trees protect less against the rain?

I am a singaporean and I can state one controvesy that the govt wanted to cut down the Maju Forest. This is one in the long series of cutting down other forests on the island. I disagree with the cutting down of the forest because Singapore is unreasonably hot. I live in Yishun and it feels like yes we have trees at side of roads and covered pavements but climate change and heat bouncing off concrete buildings and tar roads make the heat more unbearable. Messing with our ecosystem in the anme of building housing may not be great if we are messing with habitats or making i dont know our island in an effect more hot
