The Service Movement for Metsimaholo is contesting local government elections for the first time, transitioning from a service-delivery civic movement to a political party.
The movement was formed to advocate for Metsimaholo residents amid persistent service-delivery challenges, including unreliable water and electricity supply, refuse collection, deteriorating roads and inadequate street lighting.
It says residents have been failed on two fronts, through the decline of basic municipal services, and also in the council chamber, where years of hung councils, unstable coalitions, and revolving mayors have undermined accountability and effective governance.
