Alright, I watched the whole thing. Here's my take.

Trump just called for regime change in Ukraine. A sitting US president telling a democracy at war that they need a new leader. And the Kremlin's chief economic adviser called it "iconic and historic." That's not a slip. That's a handshake.

The reason is diesel. Trump is furious that Ukraine is hitting Russian oil refineries because it's driving up fuel prices at home. So he told Zelensky to "better damn well stop." Let me get this straight. Russia invades Ukraine. Ukraine fights back by hitting the refineries that fund the invasion. And the American president tells Ukraine to stop because it's inconvenient at the pump. That's not diplomacy. That's a protection racket in reverse. The victim gets scolded for bruising the attacker's knuckles.

And why are diesel prices up in the first place? Because Trump went to war with Iran. That's the analyst's point and it's the whole ballgame. He lit the Middle East on fire, oil spiked, and now he needs a scapegoat. Enter Zelensky. The guy who's been holding the line for four years while Trump talks about how much he admires strong men. Zelensky is the fall guy for a crisis Trump created.

The leverage problem. Here's the part nobody wants to say. The US gave up the right to dictate terms to Ukraine when it stopped funding the war early last year. Europe is now in for $100 billion plus. Trump can shout "get a new president" all he wants. He's not paying the bill. He's just doing Putin's PR for free.

The Miami peace talks. The analyst calls them a smoke screen. He's right. You don't put real estate agents in charge of a war negotiation. You put them there so the talks fail. So the deal gets done somewhere else. Behind Europe's back. With Putin. That's not a peace process. That's a handoff.

And the windfall. Putin gets money, political capital, and a narrative: "See? We did a deal with the West. It's just Europe that's the problem now." He's been waiting for that frame for three years. Trump handed it to him on a plate.

The bottom line. Trump thinks he's the strong man. But strong men don't beg for oil prices to come down while their enemy's adviser calls their foreign policy "historic." Strong men don't ask a wartime president to hold elections while the bombs are falling. Trump doesn't want Ukraine to win. He doesn't care if Ukraine loses. He wants the price of diesel to drop before the midterms. And he'll throw Zelensky under the bus to get it.

Putin understands force. So does Zelensky. Trump understands what looks good on TV.

Check the stove. Keep the loop open. And if somebody tells you Trump is a master negotiator, ask them why Putin's adviser is doing a victory lap.

Ed's out. 🌹
