I'm sorry...but this story is a crock of BS. They are attempting to link femicide with the cartel bogeyman scape goat. Femicide is not unique to cartels. It is when a specific patriarchal culture places more value on the life of men than women. There are remnants of this in most places around the world. The cartels kill for other reasons specific to expanding their drug trade. In Ecuador 90% of all murders that occur are men. There is a difference between females who are victims of crime and females who are specifically killed because they are females. While there is no doubt that Ecuador, like most Latin countries, has a culture of 'Machismo." Trying to highlight this problem by laying it at the feet of cartels is misleading. In India around 240,000 female children under 5 years are neglected, abused and allowed to die because their families only want boys. Also around 6000 women each year are killed over dowry disputes in India even though legally dowries have been discontinued. Femicide is not caused by criminal activity IMO.

Why can't they stop it? Probably because it doesn't exist. How much do you want to bet that more men kill other men than kill women. Where's the outcry on maleicide?

5 years ago Ecuador was the safest place in Latin America, lowest homicide rate, few drug and gang problems, Changes took place in cartel operations and major shipping routes very established though Ecuador. The cartels flooded the coast with H, a low cost addictive high, and loads of young poor guys got into it, got into gangs, homicide rates shot up, safety plummeted, Think about this next time you see coke traded. It's killing people and destroying great places.

Denmark sterilized all Greenland females -- and DW News has the audacity to talk about femicide in a small central american country?

News flash! Men experience much more violence than women. Why not just focus on violence itself instead of the gender of the victim?!

Ultimately, the responsibility of leadership is to ensure the country enjoys peace and prosperity—avoiding conflicts like those in Ukraine, Palestine, or Iran, and averting the kind of hunger seen in Cuba
