I still have my white 5.5 gen 80gb that I ordered online in 2006 for $499. Which was the only way you could get that model. All factory parts, except the replacement battery which Apple installed. I was pretty upset because I could have waited for the rounded edge one with 80gb and got it for $249.

Hey Linus every iPod until the 6th gen has a Wolfson DAC, after that Wolfson got purchased by Cirrus Logic who went on to make the DAC for the 6th gen and later iPod which makes them essentially about the same. The Wolfson DAC is something eBay sellers use to ramp up prices on ordinary iPods

OR a modded iPod"

PS. Not to shell out shame or anything, you spend how ever much money you want on your mp3 player or just use your phone. The idea around ALL of this is to own your music again! However you do that by either streaming music to yourself using Jellyfin/Navidrome or buying a dedicated device, it's all the same. guess Apple users are so used to the company locking down phone storage and apps—pushing them toward Apple Music, and other streaming services—that they don't realize you can just get a Galaxy phone and load every song you've ever owned onto it without being forced to carry a second device. For those who don't want to spend that much on a good quality MP3/Flac player, I've been using the HIFI WALKER H2 for the last 6 months, it's real good. The menu is a little bit annoying, but the build quality and the sound is great! The controls are tactile, there's Bluetooth, a 3.5 audio jack and builtin usb3 (I don't know if they do sound as I only use 3.5mm jacks). It's about 170$ CAD on amazon, I got a refurbished one first, but it was broken, replaced it with a brand new one and I don't regret it.
