Reading, maths and science scores in PISA, the world’s biggest international test of 15-year-olds, are falling. The downward trend started around 2012 and seems…

Wow..this so informative and amazing test for our generation. As I am only 16 I was curious to know more about so, went on to research about this. And I figured out one sad thing. When she said today after 25 yrs 91 countries participate in this contest/test I searched for my country, India. And when I found that indian government has officially declined to participate this, I was heartbroken 💔.. I found that india just appeared once in 2009 like, seriously??
I think my nation only knows to lift up the private coaching classes. And to kill the talent and ideas..
If anyone knows more detailed information about this can please anyone tell me is this right or wrong to india not participating in this..please🥺
It means their parents don't care. Write that article and don't make it a mystery
Don't blame Covid. Kids had more time to study during Covid. So it's laziness and had parenting. Not Covid.
4:19 Was this test not held in India?
What is GENSI? Are they referring to Gen Z (zed!)? They can't even speak proper English.
My hypothesis is that feed based short form media is removing the habit of actively thinking
shocker
One? Feature of stupidity? Is turning every statement? Into a question?
When they drop the overall standards , not sure what they expect to happen.
who Edited this video? This looks like split screen tiktok than a report
They are gullible. They are unfortunate to consume a lot of bs titktok instagram videos and they believe anything shown on them.
Gen Z is extremely intelligent. Maybe they dont care about doing good in school anymore. Why aren't we asking, why dont they care about school. Maybe because they dont see a future in getting a degree. Or maybe they see that information (phones) is at there finger tips 24/7 so they dont need to do good in school. Talk to them, dont just call them stupid. Then you might understand.
They are lazy lot with poor educational systems all over the world with proliferation of digital devices. Young people are cultured in over-protected environment. This group cannot endure anything and indiscipline is the order of the day.
ZED.

The BBC should use British English.
There is a TikTok explaining this.
yes, they are
¿Entendistes?. Gracias.
And yet...the BBC employs a Yank who says "math" to tell us what's going on. It's "maths" because there is more than one type...but apparently that doesn't matter these days
Critical thinking and merit is shunned so no surprises there.
Immigration from third-world countries?
It's amazing how much one can learn from the Internet's
Vast and seemingly infinite sources of information, assuming the information is accurate.
The curiosity seems to be lacking.
The reasons are clear enough. Ever since smartphones appeared on the scene, kids abandoned critical thinking and have just been glued to their screens. Just look at the graphs she presented: the curves started dipping after about 2010 or 2012 when smartphones came out. There's overwhelming evidence out there that smartphones make you stupid
Not holding them accountable & making excuses for not pushing them to try is the important thing no one wants to talks about
They are less concern about events. Research is seen to them as disturbing and AI gives readymade answers which made children less interested in hard work
As a teacher, I would also like to add that millennial parenting plays a roll in this. I'm a millennial myself btw.
In my opinion main reason is poor concentration due to divided attention from heavy social media use.
Millennial here, with gen Z kids. First and foremost: Yes, I am colossally more stupid now than ever before and I blame the same effects as you do. And, yes, we know and we tried so, so hard to shield our kids from this. It was near impossible. In Norway, we have a summer reading competition at all libraries and my son used to read like 3000 pages in summer, more or less dominating the score in our little village. But he as well as our daughter got caught in the web of mental detoriation because you can't keep your kids away from the thing when everyone else allows it. My daughter just started high school - about to turn 16 - and she was absolutely blown away by how many of her peers here knew more than her. Her interests so far have been she, herself and her style. That's it. As parents, we had failed to introduce any interests, or even just newspaper reading, into her life. My son knows a wee bit more about the world, but as both had "family link" screen time, both have tried to lure in other devices and get their hands on MORE, MORE, MORE doomscrolling and stupification - and they succeeded. We always knew when they got dumber, due to lack of sleep and lack of real world interaction. We have confiscated tons of phones and tablets that came from who knows where. The allure and drag of this is impossible to withstand - for us adults, and it's even worse for kids. There's zero defense here.

So, yes, we are doomed. A little bit. They're still turning out alright, good people, they're just stupid. And that's what's happening on a societal scale, and this is how troll factories like the AfD, or Farage or Trump can get people to vote against their own interests - and this is how society decays into, yet, unknown forms of suffering. We could have had a better future, but we chose not to.
This was called "the Google effect" in the 90s by researchers that discovered very early on and very powerfully that easily retrievable information is easily deleted by human brains
COVID is NOT the reason GenZ is floundering.
BBC is garbage.
It is always irrelevant to compare Singapore with other countries because most students there go to after hour school (Bushiban) till 11 pm almost everyday.
It's TikTok that's rotting their brains.

As a person who works in education and has been working in education for many years, it's a complicated question so there is no definite one factor that has caused or influenced this decline but my theory is in the introduction and push for more use of technology in lessons, learning and teaching and education as a whole, as tools to support learning, which has led pupils to rely on technology for their thinking rather than their own independent thinking. Judging from the graph in the video (not sure on the exact date so this part I'm not sure), it looks roughly that was when the big push for more technology usage in class rooms started. There has been a few articles and discussion videos recently on this that is influenced the decline. However technology is not solely to blame but a multitude of other factors.
The idiots are winning, yes. They have been for awhile but now there is no hope left.
Leftist indoctrination is a major factor.
People have a lot more entertainment now than they ever had, social media provides endless amounts of it. Studying is boring and takes effort, add LLMs into the equation to substitute their critical thinking skills and you get a stunted generation not because of inability but because of countless distractions or things that do the thinking for you. As the saying goes, if you don't use it, lose it.
Coincidentally, far right is on the rise.
yes
It is not COVID or screens. Our brains are becoming less efficient due to chemicals in our food and agriculture. Every piece of data suggests that. Increased autism, ADHD, anxiety, hypermobility, trouble at school, delayed nappy training, speech delay, increased dementia, joint replacements, obesity, metabolic syndrome. They seem all distance but there is one simple change behind them which is changes in gene expression, brain wiring (synaptation)and therefore brain setting. Cancer is increasing for the same reason which is the oxidative stress generated in our cells by those chemicals like weed killers and plastics. Environmental medicine and political awareness is a must and not a choice if we want to survive the next decade. It is even more dangerous than climate change.
Covid locdowns, worth it? No, Legal probable not.
Take a look at A-level exams from the 60s and 70s: both the difficulty of the questions, and how they were graded. It's blindingly obvious how much easier they are today, which has helped the UK disguise the intellectual decline of Gen Z.
And the mollycoddling, telling them how special they all are, and that they can achieve anything they wish, hasn't helped one iota.
Gen Z lives in a world of information overload, manipulated content, endless streams of images and video, tools/apps that change very often, and decisions are made in a permanently distracted environment. Different environments create different cognitive demands, and that does not automatically signal lower intelligence. If we go back far enough, an intelligent person might have been the one who could read animal tracks, predict the weather or navigate towards the North Star.
And one more thing: Gen Z are our kids and grandkids. They didn't arrive on Earth as some alien species with their own knowledge and education system. If they really are less intelligent, then perhaps we should ask what we did to produce that result instead of blaming them for it.
With teachers proudly outsourcing their teaching to AI-generated crap this is to be expected.
They are certainly less brainwashed & are pushing back against the Israeli Genocide of the Palestinians & Lebanese 🤫
Yes my grandson little Billy nearly drowned in 3 inches of bathwater.
Yes Gen Z is getting less intelligent because they don't care... They can see what's going on the wars, the enocides, global warming, no jobs, will never own a house, all the good looking people aremarrying rich people, they know what awaits them they just don't care plus all that awful music they have to listen to.
So they are dumber in a polite way?
We criticize young people, yet we have an american idiot president in the throes of senile dementia; a world governed by the elderly doesn't seem to be doing so well...
The ChatGPT generation
Taken their foot off the pedal. Expectations of life and entitlement levels for themselves are far too high. Stop using excuses, knuckle down and use your brains instead of button pushing. There are so many "girlies"about these days too. All look the same , curlie long hair blue eyes no common sense!
Given the extreme wealth division causing economic dysfunction
which causes social fracture which causes yet more economic dysfunction
maybe they are MORE intelligent given the pointless pursuit for yet more poverty.
Yes. They are less intelligent as they are far more emotionally out of control. Far more 'Unhappy' in other words. As can be clearly seen in their totally irrational behavior. In their moods and temper tantrums. You see, when you are emotionally out of control you then can't see what are in fact basic truths. You are then being 'Blinded' by your emotions. Basic truths such as the differences between a man and a woman for example. A situation that is not being helped by their left wing (emotionally out of control) teachers.

Best wishes 🙏
why the comment section in the video about Israel sanctions is disabled
Gen Z: makes a small mistake

Millenial: Uh oh! Re .t H a r.d alert! 🔔 R E T H ARD ALERT CLASS!!!! 🔔🔔🔔🔔
They are getting less informed. Lack of information makes them appear less intelligent.
no just the result of boomers
Thanks report, that should earn the Captain Obvious award.
Can you use the equal earth map now
I don't believe it that must be something wrong with the data
