Just for the sake of interest: No one mentions the phugoid oscillation effect. If a plane’s controls are let go, the speed increases (even with no engines) and altitude drops, but eventually, speed inevitably means lift. So the plane will pitch back up completely by itself. This’ll happen a few times before it crashes. I’m not taking anything away from the heroic efforts by the victims of this tragedy, but science is science.
